Soho, Jazz and a New Office
We bring you exciting news this week. We’re exceptionally pleased to announce that we have moved into a new office in central London’s Soho. This feels very much like something of a homecoming, as we were based a short walk away in Mayfair in 2020.
Our new West End location is not only conveniently central (we’re a short hop from Tottenham Court Road) but is also steeped in a rich marinade of history and jazz. Nice.
Club 16 – our new home – is an 18th century townhouse just off Soho Square. The area we now know as Soho was established long before this, and can be traced back as far as the 1500s when it was a royal park developed by Henry VIII. It has had an enviable (and sometimes somewhat colourful) reputation as one of London’s premier entertainment districts since Victorian times, a hotspot of jazz, blues and popular music in the 20th century, and is now known as being home to leading film companies, media boutiques, fashionable restaurants, bars and of course, music venues.
As well as being our HQ, Club 16 houses The Piano Bar Soho which follows in the venerable tradition of Soho’s cultural melting pot, offering live jazz several nights a week.
Soho’s nightlife is legendary thanks to landmarks such as The Marquee Club and the Windmill Theatre, and a whole host of important smaller venues. Pembury Partners family history is deeply rooted here – our co-founder and director Darren Lewis’s father used to manage the renowned Flamingo Club in the 1960s. A favourite with jazz and blues fans and musicians, it was frequented by a plethora of the stars of the era, and members of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and many others would regularly meet there.
Such is the reputation of Soho as an evening entertainment destination that the name has been adopted in far-off parts of the world – notably there are Sohos in New York City (their SoHo allegedly means “South of Houston Street”, but the name was inspired by London), and Hong Kong.
Needless to say, we love it here. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of this corner of the West End, and in such an effortlessly cool area of London we feel honoured to be part of the fabric. We’d be delighted to welcome you, so please feel free to get in touch and make an appointment.
Our new office address is 16 Carlisle Street, London W1D 3BT. If you’d like to pay us a visit please note that meetings are by appointment only, so please contact us first.
